Top Seeds in the 2020 Australian Open

Seeding is a common practice used in tennis to make sure that the top players in the competition can only meet deep into the competition. This is an excellent method to ensure that the upper stages of the tournament are much more exciting. Seeding positions are released before the draw is done. The Australian Open has 32 seeds. Here are some of the top seeds that were in the 2020 Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal

He is currently the one number male tennis player in the world. He got the best seed in the men’s singles. He was considered the best player in the tournament and among the favourites to win the tournament. He was seeded using his performance on all the other tennis competitions that took place throughout the year.

Novak Djokovic

This is the man who went into the tournament as the defending champion and came out victorious at the end. He had also won a trophy against Nadal before going into the 2020 Australian Open. Novak was ranked second in seeding. He was seeded according to his position on the worldwide tennis rankings. He went ahead to win the Australian Open for men.

Ashleigh Barty

She was one of the favourites to win the competition. She was seeded first since she had won the WTA Finals. She had also won the French Open and was the best female tennis player at the moment. She had a burden to represent her home country, Australia, and win the trophy. She was not successful in her quest as Sofia Kenin emerged as the winner of the competition.

Karolina Pliskova

She was seeded second in this competition. This was in accordance with her world rankings in tennis. She was eliminated in the third round.

Naomi Osaka

Although she was seeded third, she was a top favourite to win the tournament. She was also the defending champion in the competition.
